The period from 1730 to 1850 was the Golden Age of live theatre in Lincolnshire, with more theatres in the county than in 2025, more live performances than there are nowadays, and when actors could make a living just by working in local theatres.   The theatre in Grantham had to be rebuilt in 1805 as audience numbers increased and the new theatre stood until the 1950s.   This talk will describe4 the exciting story of the Lincoln Circuit of theatres, including Grantham where audiences could see the latest plays and  performances by London stars and their popular local actors.
