Grantham Museum Announces Sponsorship Opportunity for Historic Compton Organ

Supporters Invited to Help Bring Back a Landmark of Local Musical Heritage

Grantham, Lincolnshire – February 2026

Grantham Museum is delighted to announce the launch of a new sponsorship programme for the recently returned Compton Organ, a historic theatre pipe organ now being installed at the museum. Sponsorship packages are now open to individuals, families, and businesses wishing to support the restoration and celebration of this unique piece of the town’s cultural history.

The Compton Organ, originally installed in the State Cinema (later the Granada Theatre) on St Peter’s Hill in 1937, has returned to its hometown after more than five decades away and is currently being reinstalled at Grantham Museum. Once fully installed, the instrument will be featured in regular concerts, musical events, and educational activities.

Sponsorship levels start from as little as £5 and range up to special packages that include prominent recognition, event invitations, and exclusive benefits such as tickets to the first recital and access to a special pre-opening evening. Sponsors will be recognised on dedicated display boards beside the organ, on the museum website, and in press communications.

Carl Heslop, recently appointed Trustee of Grantham Museum and representing the East Midlands Organ Museum, which is working with the museum on the organ’s installation and restoration, said: “The return of the Compton Organ to Grantham is a momentous occasion for everyone who values our town’s cultural and musical heritage. This sponsorship programme gives the community a chance to be part of bringing the instrument fully back to life — supporting not just its installation, but its use in performances, workshops, and events for generations to come.”

Installation work is underway, and visitors can already view the organ as it is prepared for its full commissioning. The first musical performances are planned for May 2026.
