Compton Organ Open Day – 14th PM

Come and see a piece of Grantham’s musical heritage as it’s being brought back to life! The historic Compton Organ—originally installed in the State Cinema (later the Granada Theatre) in 1937 by the renowned John Compton Organ Company and enjoyed by generations of cinema-goers—is now being carefully installed at Grantham Museum, and you’re invited to witness the progress up close. During our open days, visitors will be able to see the organ in situ as work continues and even chat to installer Carl Heslop, who is overseeing the restoration and installation. Carl will be on hand to share insights into the organ’s fascinating history, how it works, and the exciting plans for concerts, workshops, and community events once it is fully commissioned.
Please note that this is an active installation site, so there may be power tool noise and ongoing work taking place. It is also located on the first floor. There are stairs and lift access available.
As a major heritage project, the installation relies on vital financial support, and we warmly welcome donations to help complete the work and ensure the Compton Organ can once again be enjoyed by the whole community for generations to come. Recommended amount £5-10
