Actors and Theatres in Georgian Lincolnshire

September 18th @ 2:00 pm

Join us as we discover all about actors and theatres in Lincolnshire in the period 1730 to 1850

Our ‘Actors and Theatres in Georgian Lincolnshire’ talk is about actors and theatres in Lincolnshire in the period 1730 to 1850. At that time there were more theatres in the county than there are today, and actors made a living by touring those theatres on an annual circuit. That was the golden age of theatre in Lincolnshire, with more live performances than there are in the 21st century. The main company of actors in Lincolnshire was based in Lincoln and toured about seven or eight towns. By the end of the period here was enough demand for some other companies to be established. In addition, stars from the London theatres came to the county in the summer when the London theatres were closed.
