The English Civil Wars of 1642-51 divided families and communities and wreaked death and destruction on the nation’s population, with Lincolnshire being no exception. This talk will explore the key events and personalities of the conflict across the county as well as explaining how Grantham and its surrounding area played its own important role, not least by cementing the reputation of a rising parliamentarian cavalry officer by the name of Oliver Cromwell.
About your speaker – Dr Jonathan Fitzgibbons is a Senior Lecturer in Early Modern History at the University of Lincoln and author of several books, including Cromwell’s Head (2008) and Oliver Cromwell’s House of Lords (2018)
